Investing Options Available as per IIP

The Ireland Immigrant Investor Program lets individuals and families from outside the European Union to get Ireland residency by investment. Although the programme does not offer permanent residency, if the necessary conditions are completed, resident permit can be extended for an indeterminate time every few years.

Although the Ireland Investor Immigration Program does not offer Irish citizenship in exchange for money, long-term stay in Ireland can be utilised to provide a citizenship application under Irish naturalisation procedures.

A person and his or her family can only qualify for Irish residency if their investments have been publicly acknowledged by the Irish Immigrant Investor Programme. Permissible investments are categorised into four categories under the Ireland Investor Program:

Candidates for the Ireland Investor Visa must make a three-year investment of at least €1 million in a qualifying Irish business. The business could be an existing one or one that the investor has founded. The company must be incorporated in Ireland and have its headquarters there. The company must also contribute to the Irish economy by creating or retaining jobs in the country.

Business investment must be made by prospective immigrants in their own name. They cannot qualify under this option by purchasing publicly listed stock or real estate to rent to tenants. As long as each individual investment qualifies separately under the programme, potential applicants may propose a big investment including a number of partners, all applying for the Ireland IIP.

Candidates must invest at least €1 million in a qualifying investment fund for at least three years to qualify for this option of the Ireland immigration by investment programme. Immigration Ireland must have pre-approved the investment fund for the programme, and it ought to be a private equity or venture capital firm that focuses on small and medium-sized businesses. A minimum target size must also be met by the fund.

The fund's domestic investments must be utilised to purchase equity ownership in Ireland-registered companies with non-publicly traded shares. In order to perform any business in Ireland, the funds, along with the fund managers, must be regulated by the Irish Central Bank. Under this option of the Irish Investor Program, only funds that are managed by an experienced fund manager based in Ireland are eligible for approval.

Candidates need to invest in an Irish REIT to qualify for this Investor Visa Ireland option. A REIT is a publicly traded business that holds rental property while minimising investment risk and avoiding double taxation. To reduce risk, a REIT will normally invest in a diversified pool of properties and must disperse the majority of its profits annually.

Applicants must invest at least €2 million in one or more that one qualifying REITs for a minimum of three years to be eligible for Irish residency under this option.Either the REIT must be listed on the Irish Stock Exchange or it must have applied for listing and provided notice to the Revenue Commissioners of its intention to do so. Even if the value of the shares climbs for more than the €2 million investment minimum, investors must keep the same number of shares for the entire three years. The immigrant investor might sell up to 50% of his or her shares after three years. After a year, they can divest another 25%, and after five years, they can totally divest.

Candidates need to donate a minimum of €500,000 to a qualifying charity project in the arts, sports, health, culture, or education in order to be considered for this Ireland Investor Program option. Candidates who work with four or more other immigrant investors can individually donate up to €400,000 until the entire fund is donated to one enterprise.
