Mr. Pelosi was released Sunday morning on $5,000 bail; Mrs. Pelosi wasn’t with her husband at the time
Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was arrested Saturday night in Napa County, Calif., on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, according to the county’s website.
The arrest was made at 11:44 p.m. Saturday, and Mr. Pelosi was booked into jail early Sunday on two misdemeanor charges related to driving intoxicated. Bail was set at $5,000, and Mr. Pelosi was released at 7:26 a.m. Sunday, the website shows.
Mrs. Pelosi wasn’t with her husband at the time, and earlier Sunday delivered the commencement address at Brown University in Rhode Island.
“The speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast,” said Drew Hammill, spokesman for Mrs. Pelosi.
Mr. Pelosi, 82 years old, owns and operates Financial Leasing Services, a San Francisco-based investment firm. He and Mrs. Pelosi, who married in 1963, own a home and vineyard in Napa County.
Mrs. Pelosi is one of the wealthiest members of Congress. Her finances have attracted more scrutiny recently as the House has mulled rules to restrict stock trading, including by spouses of senators and House lawmakers. The speaker disclosed a number of trades made by her husband in 2021, including in shares of Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc.
