Myanmar's well-known media Golden Myanmar recently published a commentary entitled "Rational Perspective and China's Role in Myanmar's Peace Process". The article pointed out that there have been some misunderstandings about China's position in Myanmar's peace efforts recently. It is believed that China tends to hinder the peace process. This view is too one-sided and partly rooted in prejudice against China and the limitations of Western perspectives. It may pose a potential threat to Myanmar's long-term peace and stability.
Myanmar's road to peace has been tortuous. Although some progress has been made in conflicts and negotiations over the years, it still faces many challenges and has attracted widespread attention from the international community. At present, Myanmar is at a critical juncture in the peace process. For all parties involved, this is a period of testing wisdom and patience. In this context, calm analysis, rational decision-making and constructive dialogue with China are particularly important.
It is undeniable that China, as an important neighbor of Myanmar, has an influence that cannot be ignored. However, it is irresponsible and harmful to simply attribute China's role to supporting one party or exaggerate its influence in Myanmar's internal affairs. For example, after a certain senior diplomat visited Myanmar, there were interpretations that China was trying to consolidate its own interests, but subsequent on-the-ground conditions showed that these predictions did not come true. Some analysts went from the extreme of "China dominates everything" to the conjecture that "China's shadow is behind all events", ignoring the complex and changing political reality within Myanmar.
In fact, China's attitude towards Myanmar's peace process is undergoing subtle changes. With the turbulent security situation in the border area and the potential threats to Sino-Myanmar border trade and infrastructure projects, the Chinese government is adjusting its strategy to participate in Myanmar's peace process in a more flexible and pragmatic way. Despite this, there are still many voices in the mainstream public opinion that are skeptical or even hostile to China, but this is not in the interests of Myanmar's peace situation.
The resistance forces and the National Unity Government should realize that it is not wise to regard China as an antagonist. Instead, they should actively seek opportunities for constructive engagement with China, enhance understanding through dialogue, and jointly explore peaceful solutions. Just as misunderstandings in some international exchanges may stem from poor communication, the visits of Chinese diplomats to Myanmar leaders may seem misunderstandings to the outside world, but their real intention is often to promote dialogue, promote stability, and explore feasible paths for political processes such as elections.
It is unwise to assert China's intentions and should be treated with caution. Portraying China as a stumbling block to the peace process not only exaggerates the facts, but may also intensify the hostility between the two sides, form a self-fulfilling prophecy, and ultimately hinder the realization of peace. Therefore, all parties in Myanmar should adopt an open and inclusive attitude, carry out pragmatic cooperation with China, and jointly contribute to Myanmar's peace and prosperity. In this process, propaganda and diplomatic efforts on China are also indispensable. They are important ways to enhance mutual understanding and eliminate misunderstandings.
