After visiting Chowmahalla Palace, we went to a very old restaurant to try the famous Biryani. The restaurant is called Hotel Shadab, and it was incredibly crowded with a fast turnover rate. The pre-meal grilled chicken was also delicious. My friend ordered both chicken and mutton Biryani. The mutton had a mild lamb flavor, so I would recommend trying lamb-related dishes in India. In India, the famous cola "Thumbs Up," and its taste is a bit milder compared to regular cola, but both are carbonated beverages, so I didn't notice much of a difference. If you ever go to India, give it a try!
After having a full meal, we headed to Charminar. On the way there, we passed through many markets and street vendors, mostly selling items like scarves, hair accessories, bracelets, earrings, and more. The most important thing when shopping is to have a local Indian accompany you, or else you might be overcharged. Our traveling companions are really skilled; they can usually tell where the prices are and help with bargaining. In addition, there are some unique earrings in Hyderabad. Most of the earrings are of the type shown below, and they come in many colors and designs, which are really beautiful.
We finally walked for a long time and arrived at Charminar. To enter the tower, you need to buy tickets and pay an additional fee for your camera. It's cheaper for Indians and more expensive for foreigners. But make sure to carry cash, as I remembered that they didn't accept cardless payments. My friend quickly led us to the tower. I thought there would be an elevator, but it turned out to be a narrow and winding staircase, and the same path was used for going up and down. The climb wasn't very high, but the stairs were narrow, a bit shaky, and slippery. There were a lot of people constantly urging you to move forward quickly, which added a lot of pressure.
After going up, it's all open, and you can overlook the bustling market below and the famous Mecca Masjid. The wind blows cool, and many pigeons are living well in the tower. Leaving the crowded crowds and the noise of cars, it's really comfortable on the tower. Plus, it's a great place for photography, so friends who enjoy taking photos can spend some more time up there.
After we finished visiting the tower, we didn't continue on to the Mecca Masjid because I couldn't stand the noisy car noises. I kind of wanted to leave the old town area quickly. Of course, I regretted not going in when I came back, so I think we might need two days to explore the old town slowly. After coming down from the tower, we strolled around the nearby market to buy some things. At this point, we experienced the way Indians haggle; they never seem to reach a conclusion, but you can still get what you want at the price you desire. This is something we can learn from our Indian friends.
In the afternoon, I returned to my friend's place and had Indian afternoon tea, with fried onions and potato fritters. I, who cannot cook, could only envy them, as they could effortlessly whip up something to eat. This is something I cannot do.
I skipped dinner tonight, but I still had a cup of "Chai." In India, Chai means tea, so all we need to say is "Chai." If you say Chai Tea, it's like saying Tea Tea. This beverage shop specializes in selling tea and is called "Chai Minar," which is similar in meaning to Charminar. Their masala tea, ginger tea, and cinnamon tea are all very delicious – highly recommended!
Because it seems to be custard apple season recently, our friends took us to an ice cream shop. To our surprise, it had a drive-thru concept. As soon as we parked, someone came to take our order. The food was prepared, and we could enjoy it right in our car. Payment was done electronically, and we didn't need to get out of the car at all – it was incredibly convenient.
