音樂產業向來是一個極度錯綜複雜與高度競爭的領域。但在2019年夏季,幾家音樂產業的巨頭公司們,無論是音樂廠牌或是串流服務平台,罕見的共同團結起來達成了一個共識 - 簽訂一個關於「譴責串流播放數字操縱」的共同行為準則。大致上所針對的對象是歌手藝人們在各大串流平台諸如 Spotify 或是 Apple Music 上的播放次數都存在一定的虛報上浮(同時這也可能造成小藝人的收入降低)。
「很遺憾的,串流播放數字的人為操縱現況已經造成整個產業在過去幾年以來的病態問題。簡單來說,就是有個黑市專門在進行透過支付一定數額的金錢來換取播放量的交易。」國際音樂商出版聯合商會的總經理 John Phelan 如此形容這個問題。
就在上述共同行為準則簽署後不久,the Blueprint Group(一個曾經與許多葛萊美獎獲獎歌手藝人合作的管理與發行組織)的部分成員就與一位數位行銷代表 - Joshua Mach 通了一次電話,而 Rolling Stone 也取得了一份語音錄製內容。BluePrint 的兩位 CEO - Gee Roberson 與 Jean Nelson、數位策略主管 Bryan Calhoun 以及 首席策略長 Al Branch 共同探索了在一些準備發佈的專輯上進行數位營銷的選項討論。藝人 G-Eazy 的團隊成員之一表示:「我們希望這將會是一場盛大的推廣方案!」
