Gazing beyond the frontier, to the earth’s last edge, A solitary city stands, its ruins facing dusk. Where have the once-flourishing heroes gone? Stone walls and carved inscriptions recall their greatness. The towering mountains stretch, ridge to ridge. Still stands the scepter in frost and snow. The wind pulls the banners; they dance in the night. Endless yellow sands drift on—like the tune of a pipa. I picture the splendor of the imperial halls— Now but hills and ruins, silent as a dream.
