另外，由於《斯卡羅》呈現的是1867年間，共存在台灣這塊土地上的原住民、漢人、客家人與閩南人，這幾個不同族群，是如何因為「羅妹號事件」而影響了彼此命運的故事；因此，為了讓角色被賦予該有的靈魂與血肉，《斯卡羅》的選角就顯得更加重要，除了吳慷仁、温貞菱、法比歐、黃健瑋、周厚安等演員外，在劇中、甚至是在真實的歷史事件，都佔有重要地位的「斯卡羅人」更找來幾位本身就是原住民的演員，擔綱演出。
值得注意的是，在劇中詮釋起「斯卡羅人」非常亮眼的原住民演員，過去幾乎沒有演出經驗，有的是國小主任、有的是部落長輩，也有本身是排灣族藝術家，或是在鄉公所服務，今天就讓我們一起認識這幾位在《斯卡羅》中表現令人驚豔的原住民演員。
(一)查馬克．法拉屋樂 飾 斯卡羅大股頭「卓杞篤」
雖然《斯卡羅》一播出就受到關注，但令人遺憾的是，在劇中詮釋斯卡羅大股頭「卓杞篤」的查馬克．法拉屋樂，近日因病過世，享年42歲。 出身屏東來義鄉「丹林部落」的排灣族，查馬克曾擔任屏東縣泰武國小教導主任，在因緣際會下，成立了「泰武國小 古謠傳唱隊」，不僅曾遠赴歐洲四國巡迴表演，更曾在NHK「Amazing Voice 驚異の歌聲」，得到全球觀眾票選第五名的殊榮，將原住民的傳統古調，帶往國際。
另外，在2006年，查馬克曾憑藉《唱一首好聽的歌》入圍第18屆金曲獎最佳原住民音樂專輯獎，由他擔任指導老師的「泰武國小古謠傳唱隊」則榮獲第25屆金曲獎最佳原住民語專輯獎，而查馬克對於部落教育的付出，也讓他在2017年獲頒「教育部師鐸獎」。
