SETTING
The story takes place in the early 1500s in the far east of the continent. There’s a place called Nurenca, where the sun shines all the time and the birds sing during all four seasons. Not far from a small town called Old Town, there’s a tall blue house sitting right down the hill. Different from all the old short houses around, the house looks modern and it has three stories.
In the house lived The NOWAK’s. There’s a saying that says: “Never go near the NOWAK’s, or you get burned by the hell fire”. The NOWAK family is far more mysterious than what people say. People call them “Gatekeepers”, for their family’s ancient history and the location of their house: the end of the border of Nurenca. No one knows what’s behind the hill and no one ever goes past the hill. It feels like the NOWAK’s are the last family that guards the border of Nurenca.
Despite all the rumors and saying, the NOWAK’s don't seem to be bothered by any of them. They don’t seem to have jobs and they start their day around sunset. Their looks don’t show their true age, and no one knows and can tell how long they live. They look pale, and they don’t talk to people outside their family. If there’s anything that can be the closest to describe the NOWAK’s, it is: “the walking corpse on earth”, and not to mention the rumors about the NOWAK’s being vampires, they seem harmless.
COSA GRAVELL, in which GRAVELL is a combined word of Grave and Hell. A hidden country behind the hill and Nurenca’s border where there are only two seasons: fall and winter. People here look pale. They never age and “die” here. Each citizen’s living length is controlled by the king, judged by how they obey the orders and if the king is satisfied by their service during lifetimes. If any disobedient behavior happens, the Forenzo army, who gets the order directly from the king, would kill the “soul” of the citizens, which means that they’re dead forever and can’t be “awakened” again. The citizen who got killed will be executed by either the Gatekeepers or the Forenzo army and burned to ashes.
In COSA GRAVELL, only the royal families are able to give birth to children (normally). All the non-royal families all take turns to be able to have kids. When it’s one’s turn, they get summoned into the palace, and the king and queen give them their blessing and the wife gets pregnant the night right after the visit.
Powered with ancient magic, the priest is the medium between the ancient gods and the king. Even king VICTOR shares a part of the magic, the priest contains all the power himself and is responsible for assisting the rule of the king.
As the tale of the Gatekeepers goes on, here’s when the story comes in….
