Once I was chopping parsley, a gust of wind blew the scent of fresh herbs into my nose and brought back memories of a kebab restaurant in Amman.
Then I remembered a program about immigrants that I watched. Someone said that people can adjust to different environments, learn and speak different languages fine. But our taste buds and stomachs cannot be altered easily.
I agree, and disagree. Taste buds and stomachs can both be trained. We learn to get used to and accept different foods, taste, textures and flavors.
However, getting used to and accepting them doesn't mean that we won't miss what we were used to or grew up with.
Sometimes, all it takes is a breeze that brings a scent to bring back more than just memories.
