喀什米爾的織品工藝就像當地的人文一樣，緩慢而悠長、柔軟卻堅定。文化和宗教的精神交織了每件織品的經緯架構，而得天獨厚的天然美景渲染了布上動人的絢爛色彩。儘管近年來的局勢動盪、政治鬥爭，總總的紛擾也無法抹去喀什米爾最真實的美。織品亦然：時代交迭，風華輪替，但不變的是那製作的繁複過程還有背後匠人的堅持精神。

“Shades of Kashmir” 計畫包含我的觀察書寫紀錄，希望透過織品經緯交錯的空隙，窺見布料背後的大小時代的交迭與人文的變與不變。除了書寫文字與影像的分享形式延續觀察的視點討論，清晰呈現纖維底下-喀什米爾的織品發展脈絡之外，更希望將這些歷史養分其內容進一步轉化再現在後續的當代創作作品上-重新詮釋我所熱愛的織品經典。

Textile craft in Kashmir reflects the Kashmiri people. It is slow and lasting, soft and sturdy, The spirit of religion and culture has been woven into the body of the fabric, and in which the paradisiacal scenery keeps rendering the subdued shades of color.

In spite of politics and civil turmoil in the region, the unearthly beauty of Kashmir still remains indigenously, so does craft genuinely; After the vicissitude of times, what hasn’t changed, and indeed can’t change in Kashmir, is the slowness of the weaving and embroidering process, and the meaning behind it. Textile craft is still small in scale and can be done within the home or at a workshop close to the home.

Kashmir fabric leaves the world sense of mystery, along with the shade of legend. With the understanding of a piece of cloth, the history behind would be revealed consequentially.

“Shades of Kashmir” is a project focused on textile craft, aiming to urge us to get all of senses engaged with Kashmiri culture and history by the help of the “empathizing, communicating and delivering”. Through three of these processes: Story-Learning by understanding; Select-construing by interacting; Create-representing by interpreting, it is about to revive the Kashmir timeless style by marrying withs sense of modernity and pinches of tradition.
