Right after John Kerry left Japan on April 15^th, the South Fleet of PLA Navy sent vessels through Miyako Channel to the Senkakus for the first time on April 16^th, the same day Beijing issued her new White Paper on National Defense.  It was Beijing’s solid reply to the US diplomatic efforts. 
Now the North Sea Fleet, East Sea Fleet and the South Sea Fleet, equipped with the capacity of supporting each other, are all present over the Senkakus area.
Beijing’s move might suggest:
1.  The three PLA Navy fleets could be summoned to the Senkakus, if needed.  The US should calculate the risk, if she decides to get involved.
2.  Not satisfied with her civil presence, China has projected military assets to the Senkakus.
3.  PLA Navy possesses the capacity to exercise the pincer movement over the Senkakus, either through Bashi Channel to the waters off the east coast of Okinawa or taking Miyako Channel from the south.    Revised at 1430

就在凱瑞15日離開日本及中國16日發佈新的《國防白皮書》之際，南海艦隊選在16日這一天通過宮古海峽到釣魚台附近巡航。至此，北海、東海、南海艦隊全數到齊。這是習近平對美國外交努力的確實回應。同一天，中國海監的船隻正式向日本漁船「监视和执法取证，并向其喊话」[1]
它代表三重意義：
1.  戰時，中國艦隊將跨區支援。外國部隊在定時將不得不思考全數中國艦隊的規模。
2.  中國對釣魚台已經擺出軍事陣仗，而非僅滿足於民事存在。
3.  釣魚台有事時，南海艦隊可會通過巴士海峽從沖繩東側太平洋海域或通過宮古水道實施鉗型支援。
BBC這樣報導：「有網民指出，4月17日『是馬關條約簽署紀念日，也是中華民族的恥辱日』，中國南海艦隊在釣魚島附近海域亮相應當有不同尋常的含義。」[2] 中國已行動宣示：釣魚台與甲午戰爭有關。另外「這個艦艇編隊早些時候先後在西太平洋海域完成了遠海攻防演練和臨檢拿捕等訓練課目」，亦即從太平洋進入。這是前述第3點意義的佐證。

新華網蘭州艦4月17日電（記者楊雷）海軍南海艦隊遠海訓練編隊17日上午在釣魚島附近海域進行巡航。

記者在導彈驅逐艦蘭州艦上看到，釣魚島附近海域海況良好，蘭州艦和導彈護衛艦衡水艦組成單縱隊巡航。

編隊是於16日晚穿過宮古海峽駛入釣魚島附近海域的。出航以來，編隊先後在西太平洋海域順利完成了遠海攻防演練和臨檢拿捕等訓練科目。

編隊指揮員、南海艦隊某驅逐艦支隊副支隊長趙曉剛表示，釣魚島及其附屬島嶼自古以來就是中國的固有領土。中國海軍在釣魚島附近海域巡航完全正當合法、無可非議。

此前，海軍北海艦隊和東海艦隊組成的艦艇編隊曾分別在這一海域巡航。
