Former President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed told the Indian Press that he might have been ousted because he had refused to sign a military agreement with Beijing, an agreement that the Maldivian National Defence Force strongly supports.  Maldives holds the important geopolitical location in India Ocean, as critical as Diego Garcia nearby.  It does not make any sense that the US recognized the new government in a day or two unless there were inside stories.  Will the new President sign the military agreement in the near future?    revised at 0920

馬爾地夫7日爆發警察叛變，首任民選總統納希德(Mohamed Nasheed)在軍警發動政變的槍口下被迫宣布辭職。不過這位馬爾地夫前任總統納希德表示，過去3個月國家防衛部隊持續要求他與中國大陸簽署國防協議，但都被他所拒絕，在下台前1週，馬爾地夫國家防衛部隊甚至對他下最後通牒。
「印度快報」(The Indian Express)發自馬國首都瑪萊(Male)報導引述納希德說，就在被迫下台前1週，馬爾地夫國家防衛部隊(Maldivian National Defence Force)1名資深官員下最後通牒，要他簽署協議，並在3個月前寄達文件，「因為我拒絕簽署，他們兩週前又寄1次」，他一直拒絕簽署這項協議。
儘管如此，納希德仍捍衛不支持與北京簽署國防協議的立場。報導引述納希德說，「跟中國簽署協議毫無意義」。不過他未詳述協議內容為何。報導表示，馬爾地夫國家防衛部隊在上週的「政變」中，扮演重要角色。馬爾地夫橫跨印度洋重要海運航線，北京一直有意染指。
