“Wanan” is one of the songs in my debut album Almost Human. For me, this song has been given me as an unexpected and terrific gift. I cherish it very much because there are a lot of personal habits in daily life. In addition, I have been thinking what else I can do for this album, so I was motivated to create the music video of this song on my own.
At first, this music video was not part of the marketing project. When discussing with the crew in the company, I suggested making this video by myself without thinking much. It was a whim. In fact, hoping to please my fans, I promised them I would give them surprises later in the autograph concerts totally out of impulse, without thinking very much. That made me worried because I didn’t have any idea about the video in mind when I was making this promise. The only thing that assured me was I wanted to do more to see my fans happy. I felt a little upset for this unthoughtful commitment, because on the one hand, I had not brought up this plan on the table when discussing with my crew in the company; on the other hand, I really hoped I could slow down my pace, finding a new way of leading my life. That’s me, who behaves recklessly and edgily most of the time. Obviously, people can often define me in this way. Well, since I couldn’t change my personality, then I accepted the real me. I told myself I tried to make it happen. That’s all I can accomplish now. I just do all I can do. I made the promise, I wanted to thank my fans, I say what I want to say, and I want to be real to myself. By doing so, I expect to give strength to those who are striving to face the world with this video and all I have expressed here.
If I told you I had had a clear picture of the music video “Wanan” before I made the promise, it was a lie. That night, the schedule of shooting was rearranged. My shift had been changed. I was free, waiting for my shift. It had been snowing for several days. The waiting was long enough that I kept thinking if I was removed from the crew, but someone forgot to notify me. Then my manager asked me if it was time for making the video. I answered ok, let’s start! However, we didn’t have enough time to finish this project, so what should I do? I found an editing app on my phone and my manager was the cameraman. I told him,” I know what I want, and all you need to do is to press the button.” A room, a vintage DV, I kept talking and the DV was rolling. If you ask me how the clips were finished, they were finished with my manager’s stunningness and speechlessness.
When shooting the film, on and off we shot for a while and if we ran out of ideas, we stopped and edited the clips. I put all the clips on the tablet computer. Checking every one carefully, I put them here and there little by little with the help of my manager. If there was something missing, I started to shoot some more clips. Gradually, we finished the video within a day. We were so proud of our efficiency. I remember I sent the video by 12 at night to all the “Moms” and “Dads” of the company. I checked it again, feeling oh, my Gosh, so touching! I hoped my fans would love it, feeling pleasant. I fell asleep with satisfaction. The next day, I received feedback from Moms and Dads (the bosses). The most impressive comment was “Well, this shot could be better if . . . . “
The new year is around the corner. I have been thinking what I want to say to myself; well, I want to give it to all of you, “Good job! Keep going!”
