Write a love letter

Stumbled upon a video on IG featuring Mini Hin and Xiao Ying. The video's title was "Write a love letter to each other on this special 8th-anniversary day."

Seeing that they've been together for eight years hit me in the feels. It got me reminiscing about my own journey. It seems I tied the knot with my sweetheart after eight years of cohabitation. The number 8 really does have some enchanting vibes.

old-school

Oh, oh, oh! Mini Hin and Xiao Ying going old-school with love letters—classic move. Well, our place is pretty old-school too. My sweetheart, though, more of a poet and songwriter. Writes me love poems and songs like it's nothing.

I remember a line from the last song

The song

I remember a line from the lyrics

""Caught in your gaze, a lifetime misled.

I'm pleased

the voice is both melodic and deep, BUT that lyric... it's a real head-scratcher.

Oh, oh, oh!

Geez! I thought, you're the one misleading a lifetime, and your whole family is on that bandwagon

(ꐦ°᷄д°᷅)⧸.

Annoyed! Annoyed! Really ticked off!

Meeting me is your stroke of luck, you should be writing

"lucky for a lifetime," why opt for "misled a lifetime"?

Hold on!

Wait a minute! I'm considered part of their family. "Your whole family misled a lifetime." This way, am I not tossing myself into the verbal scuffle too?

Reading a novel:

After venting, a novel I read before popped into my head. Grabbed it again—Nicholas Sparks's "Message in a Bottle" (1998).

Watching Mini Hin and Xiao Ying scribbling love notes made me itch to do the same. Figured I'd take cues from Nicholas Sparks, since his love letters are all the rage.

A little imitation won't hurt (๑¯∀¯๑). Penning one for my sweetheart, can I trade it for a smooch? Or maybe lay on some cheesy lines like, "Hey, I'm pretty certain about this, almost a sure thing, but I'm missing just one kiss from you."

The book

Back to the novel, let's keep the chatter going. I'm into this book because of the vivid descriptions.

Nicholas Sparks leans heavily on visual imagery in his writing. The depiction of romance between mature folks is vivid, like the scenes are playing out right in front of me.

The story is about a lady, Theresa, who found a message in a bottle on the beach after her husband cheated on her and they divorced.

The letter inside is a heartfelt message from a guy named Garrett, pouring out his longing for his late wife, Catherine. Garrett's portrayal in the letter paints him as a faithful, devoted, and lonely soul.

The female lead craves eternal love and an ideal prince charming. She falls for the guy through the letter. Love might just be like that

We fall for ILLUSIONS

When the illusions shatter, can we still love the real person?

Novel excerpt:

Garrett, the male lead, writes to his deceased wife Catherine:

My Dearest Catherine,

I miss you, my darling, as I always do, but today is especially hard because the ocean has been singing to me, and the song is that of our life together. I can almost feel you beside me as I write this letter, and I can smell the scent of wildflowers that always reminds me of you. But at this moment these things give me no pleasure. Your visits have been coming less often, and I feel sometimes as if the greatest part of who I am is slowly slipping away.

As a girl, she had come to believe in the ideal man ─ the prince or knight of
her childhood stories. In the real world, however, men like that simply didn't exist. Real people had real agendas, real demands, real expectations about how other people should behave. True, there were good men out there ─ men who loved with all their hears and remaned steadfast in the face of great obstacles ─the type man she'd wanted to meet since she and David divorced. But how to find such a man?

Wu Bai's song

Reading this line from the novel, "I can smell the scent of wildflowers that always reminds me of you."

It immediately brought to mind the lyrics from (Wu Bai's)China Blue's song "Lonely Tree, Lonely Bird":

"My love, where did you go?

Never thought about how I feel, never cared about my emotions.

Ah, my love, craving the scent of you.

Turn around and come back to me, won't you?"

the girl's fantasy

Reading this part, I can't help but applaud the author's insight. He points out the girl's fantasy.

Recollection: My sister

I remember back in third grade, my sister rented a ton of romance novels from the bookstore, and I followed suit. After about ten novels, I found them super silly. How can there be perfect people in the world? And the plots were so strange. You have to be abused a hundred and eighty times to prove that love is real.

At ten years old, I thought,

"If I have to endure that much abuse, I'd have left ages ago.

Who needs love? Love is terrifying.

Why does my sister love reading these weird books?"

Even though I thought my sister was odd for reading such books, I still followed her and read at least a thousand books. Starting from junior high, I got into BL, and in high school, I picked up GL.

The advantage is that, as a ten-year-old child, I recognized many Chinese characters because I read many romance novels that I thought were foolish.

"Ah! Love cannot be tested. The characters inside are so weird." I thought.

"Do we have to die together like Romeo and Juliet to prove the greatness of love?" 10-year-old me thought that

adults in this world are really strange!

Novel review:

Seeing the female lead chasing eternal love and an ideal prince charming, I find it unrealistic.

Nothing in this world lasts forever—family, friendship, love—they won't last forever.

Just as Mr. Su Shi said, "Life is like a journey, and I am just a traveler." Who isn't someone else's passerby?

And an ideal prince charming? How foolish do you have to be to have such a fantasy?

There are no perfect people in this world. Nobody is perfect. Even saints dare not say they won't make mistakes. In the face of temptation, who dares to say they will absolutely not be tempted? Maybe not physically unfaithful, but what about mentally?

background music

While reading, what was my background music? I played

"Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers, and Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love." Haha, my friends admires me. Listening to Chinese, Taiwanese, and English songs like this,

they feel the styles are too different. It breaks the immersion for them.

以下是影片名稱《在這個特別的8週年日子給對方寫一封情書💌 Write a love letter to each other on this 8th year anniversary day》看到他們交往八年了,好感慨

Catherine

"Unchained Melody" - The Righteous Brothers

Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling In Love
