【共同社首爾8月10日電】韓國總統李明博10日訪問了竹島（韓國名：獨島）。日本對於韓國訪問竹島持強烈反對的態度，而李明博訪問竹島等於事實上放棄剩下的約半年任期內的對日外交。
年底將有韓國總統選舉，為避免給人比目前更遷就日本的印象，執政黨和在野黨的候選人或將對日本採取更加強硬的態度。即使是明年2月新政府開始執政後，日韓關係的恢復可能還需要較長時間。
考慮到來自朝鮮的威脅，李明博政府今年推進了締結日韓秘密情報保護協定的相關工作。然而內閣會議在6月下旬秘密敲定締結方針一事被揭露，不得不推遲簽署儀式，政府也因此遭到批判。
因此，李明博幾乎不可能在本屆任期內推進日韓合作，對李明博政府而言對日關係已經沒有什麼可以失去。（完）
