If she had to choose between the mountains and the sea, her answer would always be the seaside. One day, some tourists on the island mentioned a nearby hill to climb. At the top, there was a small pond, a famous spot on the island. When the rains were plentiful, the pond would fill up, and the wind sweeping across the water would make the surface dance like a cat playing with clouds.
It took some time and effort, climbing with hands and feet, to reach the summit. As she paused to rest, she searched for the cat. It wasn’t in the grass, nor by the pond, and it seemed unlikely to be hiding in the muddy patches or behind her backpack.
Just as she was about to give up and head back down, she heard a faint meow from near a twisted, abstract-looking dead tree. She walked over and scooped up the cat. “Ah, there you are,” she said with a smile.
