Out of the blue, President Ma announced on July 11 that he would run for KMT Chairman—an intraparty election that is due as long as one year later.  The strategy to show fight in face of a crisis is nothing unusual with Ma.  As soon as he was indicted for defalcation in February 2007, he also advanced combat by one year by announcing campaign for 2008 Presidential Election.  Peculiar in the announcement was a rare expression written in classical Chinese: “Howling and bawling are the devils.”

However, it is still curious that Ma is showing similar fighting haste.  Unlike the defalcation indictment, the Lin Yi-shih case has reached Mr. X only.  Does Ma already hear the same evil wolves howl and bawl again?

In fact, when calamities arise, it seems to be Ma’s instinct to attack and fight rather than dodge defensively.  Like nomads that strive to survive, Ma defies routines and surprises both his allies and enemies.  He postponed elections for community-representatives, refused to settle Taipei City’s health-care bill, and advanced 2008 Presidential Election by two months.  Last week he even ordered the ROC navy vessels to escort China’s national colors to the Senkaku Islands, to challenge the security treaty between Japan and the US.  Consciously or unconsciously, Ma displays genetic traits passed down by aggressive Manchurian nomadic ancestors that include Nurhachi, Hong Taichi, and Fulin, who were no less ambitious than Mongolian Genghis Khan.

To attain such extraordinary capability to challenge the impossible, non-nomads must undergo severe training, through which they come to transcend the concrete world.  Everything is deemed a mirage, to the extent of self-denial.  Thus, I am not I, and no lies are lies.  Nothing is there but power.

Ma’s subordinates seem to follow a similar style.  Lin Yi-shih determined that it was just a case of deception, so he convinced himself and others that he did not commit bribery.  Wu said that he didn’t know the whistle-blowers, and when it proved a lie, he gave his own definition of “know someone.”  These officials are unbelievably convinced of their own lies, defending the lies with shameless force of justice.

As a politician, Ma is utterly flexible.  To attain power, he puts on a piteous humble mask.  Once attaining power, he shows another face.  Before the presidential victory, he paid good-will visits to 228-massacre victims’ families, and he bowed deeply for calculated ten seconds to 88-Flood victims.  Later, the bows from the waist turned out to be more humiliating than apologetic, symbolizing Ma’s heartless deliberate calculation.

Yet, we can’t deny that it takes courage for Ma to behave this way, probably more courage than Seppuku (Japanese ritual suicide) does.  However, whereas Seppuku is done for justice and faith, Ma acts for power only.  He ruins steady systems, including the security treaty between Japan and the US.

Technically, Ma is a master of politics.  If he joined PRC central government, he would make a big success with these peculiar nomadic traits.  However, he wouldn’t be able to present any core values, since he does not have any.  His efforts would surely have far more to do with his power than with people’s welfare, with his wife’s self-interested portrayal of him as a helpful reminder.

Ma grew up in Taiwan, but not culturally nurtured here.  The foreign aid that he got for 2012 Presidential Election might be just part of the exterior influence.

The devastating force of such a nomadic stereotype is beyond imagination.  As the politician collectes sufficient power in his hand, the destruction extends to the international domain.  The announcement for KMT Chairman campaign was actually the claim to the control over the whole situation.  Following his survival call for “unity,” a strong push for judicial proceedings is expected.

Whoever Ma is to unite with, damage to domestic and foreign systems is inevitable.  And this is the real catastrophe that we should fear—a catastrophe as purely detrimental as Chinese Cultural Revolution.    20120712

馬英九突然宣布參選國民黨黨主席，眾人聞之莫不驚訝，因為明年才有改選黨主席的議題，提前一年宣布，毫無必要，除非另有原因。

仔細回想也毫無意外，在特別費貪汙疑雲起訴當天，馬也是宣布參選總統，還用了很罕見的文言文「邪痞者梟叫狼嗥」。

特別費直接牽涉馬英九，但林益世案頂多到X先生。有必要重演「邪痞者梟叫狼嗥」？

馬似乎在面臨權力大困頓時會採取「以進攻代替防守」的戰術。

里長延選、健保費拒繳、總統選舉提前、都是不斷挑戰體制，也就是一如遊牧民族般不斷攻掠。7月4日5艘海巡艦艇全程護航五星旗到釣魚台，也是一種進攻。破壞的是美日安保。

他，在無意識間展現草原民族的基因特質。他是努爾哈赤、是皇太極，是福臨，也一如成吉思汗。

這種「不入虎穴焉得虎子」的特殊才能，只有很少數的人經過特殊宗教般的訓練，在訓練中不斷的否定自己，直到最後體認：世萬事萬物無非幻相、無非權力。最重要的是，這只有「我非我」才作得到。所以敢說違反事實，別人說了會臉紅的話。

他的部屬，也呈現類似的風格：當部屬說我沒有收賄、沒有索賄，心中所想的是「詐欺」──我只是詐欺。所以可以義正辭嚴，毫無愧色。類似的，當部屬說我「不認識」，隨即定義「認識」，意在「排除其他」。部屬，從而深信自己沒有說謊，而義正辭嚴。

馬是伸收自如的政客──在權力尚未到手前，謙卑恭儉；一旦大權在握，就翻臉像翻書。同樣的，在台北市長邁向總統的階段，為了掃除族群的負面因素，他可以在228家屬的怒罵中，謙卑的親身探訪。88風災，到處計時10秒鐘的鞠躬，是對災民的最大蔑視。90度鞠躬也是。

所謂的「理性計算」，在馬身上精準展現。

馬的這些行為也需要勇氣。

這種勇氣，比日本武士切腹更堅毅。但日本武士的切腹，守的是義理、顧的是大局。馬的不斷進攻，守的是權力，破壞的是體制，包括美日安保。

在技術上，他是政治高手。假使有機會讓他進入中南海政治圈，他一定能出頭天，因為會得到民眾的愛戴，而這正是中南海貴族所缺。

可是，他的出頭天並不會包裹價值，實踐價值。他的奮鬥與黎民的利益無關，他是個無價值核心的人，周美青已經透漏他只為自己。但這是在家。在外，他只為權力。

他雖然成長於台灣，但成長的營養似乎來自外部。2012年選舉時的外力幫助，只是一部分而已。

這是一位破壞性的政客──具有非常大的破壞性，不只對內，隨著其權位的高昇，對外也破壞現狀。

宣布參選黨主席是「插旗」，隨後而來的，必然是要求檢調加班。和他所說的一樣，這時候必須「團結」了，否則無法自保。無論馬或他人訴諸「團結」，對體制或現狀、對內或對外都會是一種破壞。

這，才是我們所應該擔心文革般的「絕對破壞」。
