A “boy toy” is a young, attractive man whom an older, “wealthier” (with more money) woman dates for fun or for a short period of time, without being very serious about the relationship. There is no direct “equivalent” (something that is exactly the same for some other person or situation) for women and the term “girl toy” is not used for women.

A trophy wife or a trophy husband, then, is a wife or husband who is a “symbol,” or something to show other people, of your success or status.
