(Scroll down for English)

Hong Kong Stop by Stop: Lei Tung… 2nd last stop on the South Island MTR line! Part 4: Adventures in Yuk Kwai Shan with a toddler!
What a tiring week! Back from holiday in Taipei and straight to work the next day, which probably would’ve been ok, except that I (mama) caught a cold from R on the last day. And then what with Valentine’s day, gatherings and that time of the month (ahem, ladies), on top of that time of the year (winter surge), which has so far not let up…. And then UK paperwork has been returned for me to revise, thesis has been returned for me to revise..!
So… a trip down memory lane today, featuring 1 Sunday we decided to take R to Ap Lei Chau Service Reservoir Playground
He was almost 2 and we went for no other reason than I saw it on google map & decided to check it out because it was nearby & enticed by the word playground
Getting there
From Lei Tung MTR
The playground can be accessed directly from Lei Tung MTR. One of the exits is actually on a hill, where the estate (& Yuk Kwai Shan) is! (In fact, in the video below I can be seen asking R if he would like to leave by bus or MTR & he replies “Ai yo”.. amazing how I was fluent in toddler speak back in those days. If you asked me what “ai yo” was nowadays, I’d have no clue if I hadn’t watched the video!)
There is a short path and stairs leading to the “playground.. which if you look closely at LCSD description (see link above), does not actually feature any kid playground equipment, but rather elderly fitness equipment. Nevertheless, the setting is quite special, sandwiched between hills and overlooking the sea. It is also huge. Seeing the jogging track, R decided this was the 1st time he was going to take up track running (which poor Baba cannot keep up with.. you can hear him telling us to reverse our direction!)

Then R decided to do fitness exercises on the elderly fitness equipment….
