raw-image

(Scroll down for English)

“I feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.”

Hong Kong Stop by Stop, Southern district: English playgroup & big playroom in Tin Wan, $100 for 3 hours (1 kid + 1 adult)

raw-image

This is me getting all ready to draw an Aberdeen-Tin Wan map in bed on a Saturday afternoon. It is VERY RARE that I would have any time alone on a Saturday! A few days before, we got an invite to our godson’s birthday party in Tseung Kwan O. But since I already had lunch plans to celebrate my PhD with an ex-classmate in Kennedy town and a flamenco show in TST at night, I felt it would be stretching myself too thin. I’m already stretched quite thin at work! To quote Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings:

“I feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.”

Do click on the quote & watch the youtube... and see what he suggests as the solution (though I am not tempted to do the same)!

So Baba took the kids to TKO, while I produced this from the warm cocoon of my bed:

Let’s start from one of the furthest things in the map…… You may have seen me post about Pamela Peck Discovery Space which all my mum friends loved when I told them about it or discovered it for themselves! They have English playgroup (quite expensive, but also nice and long!), which I took R to and he really enjoyed. It recently took X to a free taster session too. The teachers are lovely. Very friendly and chatty (I’ve heard they’re even around during public playroom sessions! Probably because it’s inside a teachers college run by Yew Chung)

Now you’ve heard about the pros, now for cons (which is why I have never managed to bring the kids to any of the public sessions)

1. You need to book soon after the slots are released online

2. Time slot is set (morning/afternoon)… so for us, because morning session starts 9am, it would be stressful for us to go as we are not morning people, but the afternoon session overlaps with their lunchtime naps and finishes at 4, so it starts too early & ends too early for us

3. It’s actually not that cheap if you have 2 kids (like many places in HK), which is why I ended up bringing them separately.

4. Playgroup is expensive (so none of my friends joined it)… but they have drop-in & since it is a long playgroup, if hourly rate, then it’s not too bad…
