Bonza!

Hong Kong Stop by Stop: Lei Tung (Southern district MTR stop) Part 1- Coffee shops
Phew.. what a week! Ever since new year, I (Mama) have been busy, busy, busy with the winter surge. Added to that, a colleague went on holiday last week & I covered for her & now I am on-call this week… So more light relief needed!
Lei Tung station has 2 stops. 1 on a hill leading to Lei Tung estate and another in Ap Lei Chau. Most of the attractions are in Ap Lei Chau.
Coffee shops
Ap Lei Chau has an abundance of coffee shops!
AP coffee: I’ve bumped into an acquaintance who I didn’t realize lived in the neighbourhood & an out-of-neighbourhood ex-colleague on a day trip (mentioned in my previous article), proving this café to be quite famous! If you are an avocado toast/ full English breakfast fan, then this is the café for you. It also has a kids-friendly attitude. Baba and I had our 1st date there, after X was born, which consisted of having breakfast with X sleeping in the stroller beside us, before his MCHC appointment. It was raining cats and dogs that morning and the owner was very friendly and considerate, joking that I couldn’t take my eyes off X when I wanted to turn the stroller to face me!
Bonza! By waffling beans: This is our favourite when out with the kids, on account of their kid-friendliness. It has high chairs and kids cutlery. It is also pet-friendly, judging by all the dogs there (both on weekdays and weekends!). The dogs probably go to the pet park in Ap Lei Chau park (right next to the kids playgrounds… puppies and kids, same same!) It serves waffles and has a wide selection of non-coffee drinks. This was also my favourite for WFC (Work From Café) during my PhD days, because they had sofa seats, English magazines and French windows.
Mad Three: This is run by a bunch of young hipsters. Their hot chocolate is the best ever. It’s made from good-quality Taiwanese dark chocolate and is therefore unlike the rich hot chocolates usually recommended in other places. On summer days, I absolutely love their cold chocolate… Nothing close to that can be found anywhere else. They also have egg crepes (the truffle one is particularly yummy) and I like their fried chicken.
