    The road in the end taking the path the sun had taken,
    into the western sea, and the moon rising behind you
    as you stood where ground turned to ocean:

    旅途最終的路徑依循夕陽沒入西方海面。
    就在你腳下土地化為海洋之際,
    月亮於你身後升起。

    no way to your future now but the way your shadow could take,
    walking before you across water, going where shadows go,

    此刻,不再有未來之路,若有,唯身影能夠上路。
    身影超前,跨越水面,走向身影所欲之處。

    no way to make sense of a world that wouldn’t let you pass
    except to call an end to the way you had come,

    不再有未來之路讓你理解這世界 — 世界不讓你通行,
    除非你宣告一切來時路到此終結,

    to take out each frayed letter you brought
    and light their illumined corners, and to read
    them as they drifted through the western light;

    除非你拿出每一封隨身帶著的老舊信件,
    點燃每一張信紙的閃亮角落,
    邊讀邊看著信紙紛飛飄散於西方餘暉,

    to empty your bags; to sort this and to leave that;
    to promise what you needed to promise all along,

    除非你掏空背包,捨了這個,丟了那個,
    除非你允諾了一路上必須允諾的,

    and to abandon the shoes that had brought you here
    right at the water’s edge, not because you had given up
    but because now, you would find a different way to tread,

    除非你於這汪洋邊際,丟棄那雙承載你前來的鞋,
    並不是因為你放棄,而是因為
    你會發現並踏上一條不同的道路,

    and because, through it all, part of you could still walk on,
    no matter how, over the waves.

    也因為經歷了整段旅程,屬於你的某個部分
    仍能向前,無論以何種方式,踏浪越過海面。
