Campaigning for a KMT legislator candidate at Lin-kou on November 28, Lu Jin-De stood on the stage beside MYJ and announced impending doom for the DPP president candidate, "I know, Tsai Ying-wen will soon be over." Then he went on to belittle the DPP vice-president candidate, “And in case, in case Tsai Ying-wen should be [the speaker made a gesture of pointing a gun] and kick the bucket, who would be our President? It’s Su Jia-chuen!" Lu implied that Su was not qualified for presidency.
Most TVs reported the news with a mosaic treatment, acquiescing to the fact that Lu’s gesture suggested too much violence. Nevertheless, Lu’s near-threatening statement has brought back the horrible memory of the two election-related gunshots on March 19, 2004 and November 26 last year.
Lu’s only son was kidnapped and murdered some 20 years ago. Since then, Lu has devoted himself to caring for victims of criminal cases and their family, winning admiration and respect. Yet, what is making a grieving father mourn for murdered victims on the one hand, and find joy in picturing the assassination of President Tsai on the other? What on earth is molding Taiwan into such an insensitive, coldblooded society of a double standard? rewritten at 2045
