We were honestly a bit shocked that Hong Kong neighbourhoods would complain about such a radical transformation.
說真的，我們對香港的社區會對如此新潮的變化表示不滿感到有些震驚。
But the feedback made them realise that what people valued about Tai Kwun was its low-rise character in a high-rise city.
但回應讓他們意識到，人們所珍視的就是在高樓林立的城市中，大館的低矮特徵。
The point is not to mimic the old but to distinguish the old from the new.
重點不是模仿過去，而是區分舊的和新的。
A wall in one of the site's oldest buildings collapsed during an attempt to reinforce it.
在對該地區最古老的建築之一進行加固時，牆壁倒塌了。
They have been criticised for failing to preserve some of the non-architectural elements of the site's heritage, like graffiti that had been scrawled by prisoners on the walls of their cells.
他們因未能保留該地區文物的某些非建築元素而受到批評，比如監獄囚犯在他們牢房牆壁上亂塗的塗鴉。
What we've noticed is that neigbours will just drop by in the evening to meet up with their friends becasue Central doesn't have many open speces.

But other stories are more humble in scope.
但其他故事的規模則較為謙遜（低調）。

怎樣應用？

我覺得在以上幾句句子裏，我比較推介大家學習一下第1，第2和第6句：

第1句“honestly”基本上有看過美劇之類英文內容都不會感到陌生，在所有文章，甚至口語考試都用得着！例如：
- - Honestly, this luxurious desinger bag is not much better than a $100 fast fashion option. （說真的，這個奢侈品牌手袋不是比價值$100元的日常時尚品牌好很多。）
至於第2句，“the feedback made them realise that”是「回應讓他們意識到」的意思。其實我們常常都從別人的回應或日常的反饋意識到很多新知，只是我們很少這樣指出，現在學到了這一句，下次寫作也能嘗試這樣說明呢～例如：
- - Her feedback made him realise that this relationship cannot be saved. （她回應讓他意識到這段關係已經不能挽回了。）
第6句“What we've noticed is that”，好像在說我們意識到的，其實用來指出別人沒有意識到的真的是又婉轉又有禮貌，哈哈！看一下例句：
- - What I've notice is that the division of labour between teams is quite unclear.（我注意到的是團隊之間的分工不是很清楚。）
