維多利亞監獄的第一期建築於1841年建成。 - It was the first permanent structure built by the British in their new colonial possession.
它是英國人在他們的新殖民地中建造的第一個永久性結構。 - Three of the buildings are declared monuments - a designation that imposes legal restrictions on how a building can be modified - the restoration work was destined to be particularly complicated.

怎樣應用？
我覺得在以上幾句句子裏，我比較推介大家學習一下第1，第2，和第5句：
- 第1句那個“visible yet inaccessible”適合大家學起來，再舉一反三使用，用來表達XXX卻又YYY感受，例如：
- This old lady is humble yet elegant. （這年長的女士樸素卻又優雅。）
- This hotel room is expensive yet disappoint.（這酒店房間收費貴卻又令人失望。）
- 第2句我個人覺得是很好的提醒，我們很常直接了當地只指出經歷了甚麼，忘記了經歷也可以好好修飾，“a long and arduous”就是百搭好用的形容詞～比如說：
- After the long and arduous meeting, they have finally made a decision.（經過漫長而艱苦的會議，他們終於作出了決定。）
- The long and ardrous journey refreshed his perceptions.（那漫長而艱苦的旅程讓為他帶來了新的觀點。）
- 至於第5句，我純粹是喜歡這個聽起來很專業的表達方式，哈哈，不是說XXX限制了YYY，而是“imposes...restrictions on”「施加了...限制」。我們的文章或工作的電郵都可以嘗試利用這句，聽起來可以專業一點~例如：
- The budget imposes restrictions on venue options. （預算金額對場地選擇施加了限制。）
