Daniel and the Lions
A long time ago, in a land called Babylon, there lived a man named Daniel. He was wise, honest, and faithful to God. The king of Babylon admired Daniel so much that he made him one of the top rulers in the land.
But some of the other leaders were jealous. They didn't like Daniel and wanted to get rid of him. They knew that Daniel prayed to God every day, so they made a tricky plan. They convinced the king to pass a new law: “For the next thirty days, no one may pray to anyone except the king. Anyone who disobeys will be thrown into a den of lions.”
Daniel heard the law but chose to pray to God as usual. He opened his windows, knelt down, and prayed three times a day, just like he always did. The jealous men saw him and ran to tell the king.
The king was sad. He liked Daniel, but the law could not be changed. So Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. That night, the king could not sleep. He worried about Daniel and hoped his God would protect him.
The next morning, the king ran to the den. “Daniel, are you okay?” he shouted. And to his surprise, Daniel answered, “Yes, I am safe. God sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths. They did not hurt me.”
The king was overjoyed. He ordered Daniel to be lifted out of the den. From that day on, the king told everyone to respect Daniel's God, who had saved him from danger.
