ORV slaps because it touches many themes I enjoy tremendously as a reader:
It's about a MAIN CHARACTER being written in a cursed narrative so that one certain reader could live.
About the MAIN CHARACTER defying the narrative for the same reader.
And about the MAIN CHARACTER asking to be put back in the narrative even when the reader created a better one for him.
It's about how the narrative had always been the MAIN CHARACTER's choice in the first place.
(So what is even god vs free will and autonomy?)
It's about a WRITER being thrown into a narrative which, in her opinion, sucked.
About the WRITER actively rewriting the narrative from within but gradually living it.
And about the WRITER's envy because the narrative was devotedly loved by one reader.
It's about the WRITER's final epiphany that the narrative had to be penned by her as it was to save that one reader's life.
(So what is even god vs prophet; narrative vs prayer?)
It's about a READER loving a narrative so much that for a while he allowed himself to be saved.
About the READER finding every way to repay the debt because it was the only way he coped with being loved.
And about the READER being the most omniscient yet the most powerless and seeing no place for himself.
It's about the READER being the First Cause of the narrative and everyone in it yet had to cut himself out of the world he made.
(So what is even god vs the absence we feel and the empty space that would never be filled, but oh, how do we wish to?)
It's about a NARRATIVE being created with the sole purpose of being loved by one certain reader to save him.
About the NARRATIVE that couldn't help but love its only reader in return and ended up absorbing him.
And about the NARRATIVE only being written after being read and dreamed and then lived; only being born before its almost ending; effects coming before causes.
It's about the NARRATIVE being able to create and destroy worlds and yet, at its core, still being unreliable and not 100% because there were things we couldn't capture by words, and it was written/filtered and imagined/filtered and read/filtered by people.
(But it's still important to write however powerless it feels because someone might read it and still important to read however limited and biased it seems because someone might read it with you.)
It's about LOVE urging us to re/write and re/read and re/live narratives for how many times it needs to save even just one life.
About sometimes there will still be certain parts of the narrative that can't be altered, even with the amount of LOVE there was.
And it's about even when we fail, it will never be a wrong or meaningless life to have and always, LOVE has always been there, even in tragedies.
(Especially in tragedies.)
