translation of a poem from Shang Qin’s poetry anthology
Facing the gloom
No need to open window
let out a long roar
to the darkness’ cold
I face the gloom
with unlighted cube room
— translated from Shang Qin (商禽) ’s poetry anthology
Is he out of desperation ? Or is he being sort of passive aggressive? I have no idea. You tell me!
I worked on the translation last year when I was working with creative writing poetry translation workshop in NTU; the workshop was led by Pangolin House editors George O’Connell and Diana Shi. This piece was not further discussed and rendered by the workshop at the time, so I refined and published it here under my own name.
For works that are collectively discussed, rendered and published, you’re welcome to have a look at the journal Pangolin House.
