取回話語權，說出自己的故事: Speechless

<Speechless>是阿拉丁真人電影的主題曲，這個2019年改編版相較於1992年的動畫版，加入更多現代元素，尤其敘事主線由阿拉丁轉變為公主茉莉，更加看得到女主角的心情、成長與能力，因此這首主題曲我會特別放在於女權相關主題的時候介紹。歌詞用字精準、比喻恰當，有詩的風格，很適合英文課上介紹。

My voice drowned out in the thunder

一陣浪打來

想要把我沖走，

一道潮水把我捲到海裏，

吞沒在沙中，

讓我無法言語，

我的聲音淹沒在雷聲當中

歌曲第一段用海浪來比喻女主角面對的困境及衝擊，浪濤讓她無法站穩，滿口海水與沙子使她無法言語。這個比喻生動地讓我們感受到女主角的震撼、無助，苦澀而有口難言的感受。

But I won't cry

And I won't start to crumble

Whenever they try

To shut me or cut me down

I won't be silenced

You can't keep me quiet

Won't tremble when you try it

All I know is I won't go speechless

但我不會哭

我也不會開始崩潰

不論他們如何嘗試

把我關起來或者不讓我說話

我不會沈默，

你不能叫我安靜

當你試圖使我安靜，我不會害怕

我只知道我不再緘默

這一段我會請學生注意用字的精簡，還有兩組字的押韻, cry/ try, crumble/ tremble (崩潰;瓦解/ 顫抖;發抖), 特別是第二組，用字生動，有畫面感。

Don't you underestimate me

Cause I know that I won't go speechless

因為我會盡力呼吸

當他們試圖掐著我的喉嚨

你不可小看我

因為我知道我不會保持緘默

這段的重點是這組對比: breathe/ suffocate, 在歌曲踫到一次，下次要背suffocate 會簡單許多。另一個重點是 underestimate 這個字，說明 under+estimate, 學生同時複習單字及字首用法。

But now that story is ending

刻畫在石頭裡，

每個規矩、每個字，

幾千年來不曾改變

「待在你的位子，

最好被觀賞，不是被聽見。」

但是現在這個故事要畫下句點

在這一段裡，女主角開始展現更強硬的態度，對抗千古以來對女性的刻板印象及壓迫。第4、5句應理解為刻在石頭上對女性的教條內容。Better seen and not heard 原句應為 The females are better seen and not heard. 一直以來，女性被視為觀賞物，沒有自己的聲音，沒有發語權。但這個故事要改變了。

Try to shut me and cut me down

You can't keep me quiet

Won't tremble when you try it

All I know is I won't go speechless <重複2、3段>

Let the storm in

讓風浪過來吧!

我不會被打倒，

我不會在無言中度日，

空中迴盪著我的聲音

這一段歌詞回顧一開頭的海浪比喻，再將人視之為鳥的比喻，「關在籠中」「破碎的翅膀」burn through the sky, 再再讓我們聯想到浴火重生的鳳凰，寧死而鳴, 為自己發聲，被世人看見也聽見!

迪士尼出品的主題曲，一向結構嚴謹，歌詞優美，旋律朗朗上口，很適合在課堂中播放。
