--- English Version Unwritten Rules at Grandpa A-Ping’s Tea House Broken by Little Koala In the Guava Village, at Grandpa A-Ping’s tea house, there is an unwritten rule: “If you don’t know chess, you cannot enter the chess club.” This rule is so strict that even a hint of curiosity isn’t allowed. Only those who truly understand chess can step through the small door, challenge Grandpa A-Ping, and enjoy the quiet conversation of tea and chess. One day, however, the rule was broken—not by anyone else, but by Grandpa A-Ping’s daughter, little Koala. She is only eight years old and knows nothing about chess, yet she wanted to sit by her father and watch how he played. Grandpa A-Ping didn’t refuse. He took her to a corner and began teaching her chess. But little Koala didn’t understand a thing. When Grandpa A-Ping said, “Capture the piece,” she actually put the chess piece in her mouth, filling the tea house with laughter. This incident temporarily suspended the rules, but it brought warmth to everyone who came inside. Rules are meant for order, but love and companionship can surpass rules. Little Koala, with her curiosity and innocence, brought a new life to Grandpa A-Ping’s tea house, making the chess club more human and heartwarming. Sometimes, rules need to be broken for warmth to truly spread. ---
““Capture this piece, see…”
Grandpa A-Ping pointed at the chessboard.
Little Koala’s eyes sparkled, but she put the chess piece in her mouth,
“It looks like a cookie!” she giggled. --- English Version This moment made Grandpa A-Ping both exasperated and amused, and the whole family burst out laughing: Dad shouted nervously, “Don’t eat the chess pieces!” Mom laughed so hard she could barely stand, clapping her hands nonstop. And so, next week, we have decided to introduce the rules of chess to everyone, along with a series introducing the personality of each chess piece. Be sure to look forward to it next week!
