【日常英文】惡棍巢穴Ep 3

這一集就是單純的出謀劃策（加各種互嗆），沒有唱歌（可惜）。這次多了兩個之前沒出現的角色：Claude Frollo 跟 Gaston，待會會做個簡短的介紹；反倒是Mother Gothel、Cruella 跟 Captain Hook 都沒什麽畫面。這一集很明顯看得出來反派之間對彼此都有意見，像是 The Shadow Man 一直被懷疑有陰謀，Gaston 被大家認爲有肌肉無腦，但 Gaston 自己又特別輕視女性。對話之間也真的是完美復刻了動畫裏的形象。

新增的兩個角色：
- Claude Frollo 克洛德孚羅洛：《鐘樓怪人》（The Hunchback of Notre Dame）裏鐘樓怪人 Quasimodo 的父親，也是故事裏的反派，巴黎聖母院（Notre Dame de Paris）的副主教，愛上吉普賽人 Esmeralda。
- Gaston 加斯頓：《美女與野獸》（ Beauty and the Beast）裏的萬人迷，偏偏追求不到最美的貝兒，後來爲了威脅貝兒嫁給他，串通精神病院院長把貝兒的父親送進精神病院。

- Jafar: So, you are saying you know a way to undo all the wrongs we have endured? “endure”忍受、承受，“all the wrongs we have endured”我們所承受過的錯誤。

- Claude Frollo: He is hiding something. “hide”隱瞞、掩蓋。他隱瞞了某些事。

- Maleficent: I warn you, this had better not be a waste of our time. “warn”警告；“had better not + 原形動詞”最好不...。我警告你這最好不是些浪費我們時間的主意。

- Claude Frollo: This man is a fraud. I know the kind. He is like those cursed gypsies.“fraud”舞弊、詐欺（罪），也可以用來講人是冒牌貨、詐欺犯；“curse”動詞意思是詛咒，“gypsy”是吉普賽人，“cursed gypsies”是被詛咒的吉普賽人們，至於爲甚麽說被詛咒呢？因爲吉普賽人被認爲是聖經故事裏該隱的後代，而該隱因爲殺死了其兄弟亞伯，被神處罰“必流離飄蕩在地上”，至今許多吉普賽人仍生活在社會邊緣，以偷盜或占卜為生，常被拿來當作藝術創作的主角，如雨果的《巴黎聖母院》（《鐘樓怪人》的原作）、比才的《卡門》。

- The Shadow Man: (Good) Evening, you all. (This) Would have been fun. Your loss. 這句有點欲擒故縱的味道（笑）“you all”類似“you guys”的意思，就是指稱各位、大家，寫訊息或郵件給一群人的時候，開頭也可以說“Dear all, ...“；“would have been”文法表示與過去事實不符，所以翻譯成“本來應該...”比較貼切；“Your loss.”算是很挑釁的一句話了，最好配上吊兒郎當的表情，雙手一攤，“這是你自己的損失哦”。

- The Shadow Man: Pardon me, muscles. 不好意思，肌肉男（請你滾（誤））

- The Evil Queen: Sit back down. 回來坐下。這個back的位置可以注意一下，不是sit down back而是sit back down，同樣如果要説躺回來就是lie back down，把某個東西放回來就是put it back down。

-Jafar: If what you say is true, then we are indeed in debt to you.“indeed”確實；“in debt to”是欠的意思，或説受人恩惠，如果只説“He is in debt.”就是他負債的意思。

- The Shadow Man: You have got biceps to spare.“biceps”肱二頭肌，這一句是呼應《Beauty and the Beast》裏Gaston的主題曲《Gaston》中的歌詞“As you see I've got biceps to spare.”這首歌就是小鎮的酒吧裏一群人在吹捧 Gaston 的歌。

- Gaston: And not a bit of me scraggly or scrawny. And every last inch of me is covered in... 這兩句 Gaston 回答的都是歌詞裏的。“scraggly”和“scrawny”都指人的身材很瘦削；第二句完整應該是And every last inch of me is covered in hair. 我的每一寸肌膚都被毛髮覆蓋（原來這是值得讚美的事嗎？還好被 Maleficent 打斷了哈哈哈）

- Maleficent: Silence! My patience grows thin. 安靜！你快把我的耐心消耗完了。

- The Shadow Man: This plan is foolproof. “foolproof”直翻是“防呆的”的意思，所以影片裏翻成“萬無一失”。類似的形容詞還有“bulletproof”=防彈；“waterproof”=防水；“fireproof”=防火。

- Claude Frollo: I shall be the judge of that. “judge”法官、裁判，Claude Frollo這個角色除了是副主教外，還熟讀法典、潛修醫學，精通拉丁文、希臘文和希伯來文，所以他最有資格說這句話：“這個應該由我做主”。

- The Shadow Man: A power so strong (that) it can alter the events of the past, the present, and the future. “alter”改變、更動；“the past, the present, and the future”過去、現在和未來，是固定説法。

- Claude Frollo: I assume you have not gathered us here to discuss bedtime stories. 我猜你不是只是爲了講床邊故事而把我們聚集在這的吧！“gather”聚集，名詞“gathering”就是集會的意思，其他與集會有關的名詞，“rally”專指大型公開集會，目的通常是爲了公開支持某個人事物（例如政治人物或爭取權益），“meeting”指正式的會議，目的大部分是爲了討論事情或做決策，“assembly”類似與“gathering”但通常更大型且定期舉辦，“get-together”（碰面）是最不正式的，例如朋友之間相約小酌就可以用“get-together”。

- Queen of Hearts: Do you understand a word of what he is saying? 你有聽懂他説的任何一個字嗎？很適合日常吐槽使用（笑）

- Gaston: It is all Greek to me. 這是句俚語，表示一竅不通。由來是莎士比亞的一部作品中，一個角色説他完全聽不懂另一個角色説的希臘文，有趣的是，在希臘文裏，要表達一竅不通，他們會説 It is Chinese to me. 而荷蘭人則會說 That is Latin for me. （拉丁文）

-Jafar: He was banished in a sundial. (evil laughing) “banish”放逐、驅逐（=exile, expel）“evil laughing”壞笑。

- The Shadow Man: Figured that all out by yourself, did you? “你自己都想通了，是嗎？”這句也很嗆，暗示“這麽明顯的答案，要不是我提示你，你以爲你想得出來？”

- Claude Frollo: Nonsense! 胡説！

- Maleficent: Enough. 夠了！

- Maleficent: This is quite a tale you spin. “spin (someone) a tale”虛構一個故事（給某人）以達到説服或阻止對方的目的，不過“spin”這個詞本身的意思是“旋轉”，這也是一個巧思，因爲刺傷Aurora的紡錘spindle也跟這個詞有關。

- The Shadow Man: The cards will tell. “這些卡會告訴我們答案。”另一個常見的俚語是“Time will tell.”時間會説明一切。

- The Shadow Man: Hades wielded its power for a time. “Hades”是哈德斯，希臘神話裏的冥王，是Cronus的兒子，Zeus的哥哥；“wield the power”運用力量，“wield ”本身有指揮、執掌的意思。

- The Shadow Man: Zeus entrusted the sundial to Meg. “entrust”委托、托付。

- Maleficent: Retrieving such an item from a palace guarded by magic will require a bit more finesse. “retrieve”取回；“guard”守衛；“finesse”精明、靈巧、分寸。要從一個被魔法護衛著的宮殿取出這樣的東西需要掌握好分寸。

-Jafar: I am afraid your usefulness has come to an end. “come to an end”告一段落、到頭了。恐怕你的用處就到這了。

- Gaston: She is starting to creep me out. “creep someone out”讓某人覺得毛骨悚然。

- Maleficent: This fool asks us to go to great lengths to procure an ancient, mystical sundial and does not even know how to wield its power. How quaint. “procure”（花費心力去）得到；“mystical ”神秘的；“quaint”離奇、吊詭的。

- Maleficent: The light of the sun moves time forward, so it would be safe to assume the light of the moon moves time backward. 這個句型感覺很適用於推理的時候。

- Maleficent: So the legend says, but for a deed this dark, we must violate the laws of nature itself, a blood moon. “violate”違反、違背。傳説是這麽說的，但對於這麽黑暗的力量，我們必須違背自然的法則，（所以必須利用）血月。

- The Evil Queen: Magic mirror, instruct this knave. Give him the answers he doth crave.“instruct ”指示，名詞“instruction”常被用做操作説明書；“knave”惡棍；“doth ”是“do”的古英文現在式；“crave”渴望。

- Maleficent: All the forces of darkness are mine to command. “command”發號施令。所有黑暗力量都是我掌控的。

- The Evil Queen: I am something of an expert in disguises. “disguise”僞裝，“a blessing in disguise”僞裝的禮物，類似中文説的“塞翁失馬，焉知非福”。我在僞裝方面也算個專家。

croquet 槌球，一種用木槌把球打過鐵環門的運動。

sundial 日晷，其底下的平板就叫 dial，而會造成陰影的那一根叫做 gnomon。
Cronus 克羅諾斯，這邊應該有謬誤，Cronus 是泰坦的領袖，是豐收之神，也是 Zeus 的爸爸。而希臘神話裏的創世神 Chronos 才是時間之神，也因此英文裏 chron- 開頭的字都與時間有關，例如 chronicle 編年史，chronic 慢性的，synchronize 同步，chronometer 天文鐘，chronological 按照時間順序的。
underworld 地下世界；黑社會。這裏應該是指陰間，就是 Hades 所在的地方。
titan 泰坦巨人，所以 titanic 意思就是巨大、極大的。

這一集超過七分鐘，所以筆記自然也不少，但都是一些很生動的用語，學起來以後跟朋友打打鬧鬧，反應可能可以快一些（笑）至少被惹毛了可以説句“Enoug”希臘神話的故事我們常常在漫畫或電影裏看到，但很少去注意英文怎麽説，也可以趁機長點冷知識啦！
