It has long been discussed that movies and television affect people’s behavior. There are two forms of influences. One is that people‘s living habits might be affected due to obsession. The other is that people‘s mindset is unconsciously influenced by the content.
To begin with, television and movies can erase people‘s fatigue temporarily. They reduce our stress by leading us to another world that’s not related to reality. However, it takes us too much time to watch either soap dramas or TV programs. According to the research, people on average spend at least three hours on watching TV in the eight hours of Media use per day. It not only makes us less active, but there are also more and more people staying up late on account of obsession. Therefore, the performances in daytime would be affected, which would probably bring us more pressure.
Secondly, we are either consciously or unconsciously absorbing the content in the movies. For example, soap dramas are often romantic. The main actor always knows what the main actress wants. No matter what the ending is, romance is always an indispensable element in a love story. In fact, in reality, no men always know what women want. Women look forward to the romance they anticipate, but they neglect the fact that without communication, their spouses won’t meet their expectations.
Aside from the above, violence movies also affect people’s mindset. There have been such cases happening in the society. Cited from EBC news, a perpetrator randomly killed four people on the MRT in 2014. And one of the main motivations to kill people is because of the obsession with violence movies and games.
