26 Dec 1862, Qing and Ti Pang army attacked us in different directions but simultaneously, we lost 43 brothers. We rushed into the sea. We agreed with Winter and Summer to head south, but I did not see they followed, perhaps due to a big storm was approaching in the sea.
1862年12月26日，清兵和太平軍同時攻擊我們，我們傷亡43人，我們被趕入大海。 我和冬天，夏天丞相約定往南航，可是一直都沒看到他們的船跟上來，也許是海上有大風暴來臨的原故。
15 Jan 1863, we stopped at somewhere near Tai Wan Island for few days, but did not see any sign that Winter and Summer vessels were coming over. We saw small groups of Qing vessels wandering around. We decided to go further south.
1863年1月15日，我們在台灣島附近停留了幾天，但始終沒有看到冬官和夏官丞相船隻的蹤影。我們卻發現有成群結隊的清兵船艇在四處遊戈。 我們決定繼續往南走。
看到這里，我大概明白到零利先生日記中的情況。我不斷腦補整理，理順時序和事情的發展：
當日，零利先生和冬官，夏官等丞相將領，受太平天國英王 陳玉成所托，趁英王 親率精銳四千衝出瀘州城西門，奔向壽州找奏王 苗沛霖之際，他要求冬，春，夏官等丞相和零利先生帶領火槍隊護送英王的家眷和孩子們同時偷出東門，輾轉奔江蘇，入上海，希望通過上海華洋租界，借助零利先生的洋人身份，能夠取得過路方便，再徑走南下天京(南京)覲見天王。
