I’ll look from a few different perspectives, as a musician, a program producer, and a consumer.
As a musician, I don’t think our basic music patterns would change. We make music and songs are streaming online. Some musicians may not use the idea of an album. Since the listeners are using their own songfest, their lists are various artists than just one. Musicians tend to give out singles once they have done their music. I’ll still go with an album since so far, on TuneCore, an album is $49; a single is $19. An album is practical. All kinds of music genres remain the same. There are maybe some new waves. Still, music is music.
As a consumer and listener, I always choose the music I want to listen to. My favorite music goes on clouds. Wherever I am, I click a button behind my ear and music goes. I could choose to listen to the venue music which is the repertoire the venue host chooses for everyone, or song lists I save on clouds. Everywhere is quiet. Music is only in the ears. Some places would remain old fashion. Whatever they like.
Concerts are not only musicians’ concerts. Anyone can be a performer in a concert. Avatars, autotunes, 5G, VR technics, give so many options when people enjoy concerts. I can be an avatar, be myself, or anyone in the concert. Here comes a few ideas.
I walk into a show/ scene. I’m a star, like Michael Jackson. It’s a scene, Michael Jackson’s concert scene. I’m myself representing Michael Jackson. People are crazy for me. The same concept is used in a concert. I’m a guitar player, pianist, drummer, dancer, etc.
Following the last paragraph, I’m the one I want to be and my behavior influences the show. Ex, I’m the PA guy and I just muted the drums.
I participate in a show. It’s my own or someone’s pre-recorded concert. I’m the audience. I scream hard. Another idea like, I’m the audience and I can sing, dance, hug, play with the star.
I participate in a show. I navigate everywhere on the stage or at the venue to learn all their setup for the show.
I take out my device. I’m home. Ready to have my dinner.
A real concert could cost a fortune. It’s so rare and precious. Only those who are really top could hold real concerts. Most musicians remain online, streaming music, making some money of royalties.
VR concerts are normal and popular, fancy and fun. They are not for picking people with taste and experience.
I’m ready for a concert, a real one, fresh meat and blood. I put my VR aside. Get dressed. I’m going to rock in my style tonight. Well, by 2050 if I’m still alive.
