India urged its citizens to exercise caution when travelling to Canada, warning of “growing anti-India activities”. Relations between the two countries have soured since Canada accused Indian security services of orchestrating the shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh whom India considered a terrorist, in Vancouver in June. Mr Nijjar supported the establishment of a Sikh separatist state in northern India.

India's warning to its citizens about "growing anti-India activities" in Canada is a significant development. It comes at a time when relations between the two countries are at a low point.

In June, Canada accused Indian security services of orchestrating the shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh whom India considered a terrorist. India has denied the accusation, and the incident has led to a sharp deterioration in relations between the two countries.

India's warning to its citizens is likely to further strain relations between the two countries. It is also likely to deter Indian tourists from visiting Canada. This could have a negative impact on the Canadian economy.
