瓦勒斯.史蒂文斯(Wallace Stevens, 1879–1955),美國著名現代詩人,生於賓州。曾入哈佛大學就讀,後遵父命,入紐約法學院,獲法學士學位,歷任律師、保險公司副總裁,閒暇時寫作。生前出版了八本詩集,1951年獲頒國家圖書獎,1955年以《詩全集》囊括國家圖書獎及普立茲獎。他的詩主知而富於象徵的玄祕,為佛洛斯特之外,二十世紀美國本土最傑出的詩人,影響覃子豪、羅青等臺灣現代詩人。〈冰淇淋皇帝〉為其名作,收錄於其第一本詩集Harmonium(1923)。

Call the roller of big cigars,
The muscular one, and bid him whip
In kitchen cups concupiscent curds.
Let the wenches dawdle in such dress
As they are used to wear, and let the boys
Bring flowers in last month's newspapers.
Let be be finale of seem.
The only emperor is the emperor of ice-cream.
Take from the dresser of deal,
Lacking the three glass knobs, that sheet
On which she embroidered fantails once
And spread it so as to cover her face.
If her horny feet protrude, they come
