Tate McRae在演唱會唱這首歌前，都會說「There's one thing I hate most, in this world. And you wanna know that that is? A Fake Fucking Bitch! 」臺下的觀眾就會知道要唱《we're not alike》。
都說科技是一個黑盒子，只有輸入和輸出，內部的運作邏輯和決策過程是不透明的程序。畢竟，電腦發明的時候也曾經雇用認知科學和腦科學的專家，將電子工程系統比做人類大腦，以此設計出這套輸入輸出系統。有理論家曾經說過，科技和人物混合共做的體制本身其實是一個巨大的黑盒子，在運作良好時，沒有人會察覺內部邏輯運作的漏洞，直到發生天災或等事件，才會需要拆開黑盒子修補漏洞。這樣的運作邏輯本身其實和工程的 debug 很像。如果用這樣的運作邏輯理解，其實也可以說社會體制、政治、人其實也是一直在 debug 的過程。
Tate McRae的歌裡最令我印象深刻的歌詞是「I'll never see your side」，可以翻成「我永遠無法理解你的立場」，但是也可以更直翻一點做「我永遠看不見你的立場」。因為Tate前面有一句說「haven't told the truth、missing the signs」那意思應該是，其實真相一直都被蒙在鼓裡，想想還是翻「看不見你的立場」更為合適。人際關係也蠻像是拆解一個黑盒子的，如果黑盒子被打開，找到短路的地方後除錯，那人際關係或系統就會變得更加牢固、可靠。相反地，如果這個黑盒子打不開，或是從根本上這個黑盒子在系統中被沒收或失蹤，那麼就永遠搞不清楚系統發生短路的地方，或是只能隨意亂安上一個罪名。Tate在《we're not alike》裡面應該是從未找到撬開黑盒子的方法，只是拆解自己的黑盒子拆到最後，「we're not alike」就是最後的答案了。
