Staying in a tent
I have gone tramping for two years, but it was the first time to stay in a tent when I joined the Cobb Valley trip during the Labor holiday 24th to 26th October 2020. I was pretty excited about it.
After arriving at the Trilobite Hut, when Mary and I were putting up the tent, our leader-Di took some photos for us and Julie taught me how to do it. Most of our members wanted to stay in the tent, but Mary wanted to stay in the Hut, so I occupied the tent on my own. I really enjoyed it because I had privacy and I could change clothes, lie down or do nothing. The tent was my little world.
Furthermore, I could hear the birds making a huge noise just after the sunset. It sounded very funny. The Cobb River was flowing along the valley. The Weka knocked my tent all night in order to steal something. When I stood out of my tent at midnight, I saw the stars in the sky, which were so bright, colorful and stunning. They made me astonished and touched my heart.
Cobb Valley track
We walked from Trilobite Hut to Fenella Hut on Saturday. It took us 7 hours to go and return and it was raining sometimes.
The track was flat and the Cobb River was close to the track. Although it was wet and muddy, it was nice and fresh. On our way, we could see the hill surrounding the valley, the wild grass or forest grew very well .We passed the restored historic Chaffy Hut and Tent Camp, which were old and cute as well. The Cobb Hut was green and normal. Fenella Hut was elegant ,the toilet was down in to the valley, which was hard to be found and very steep. In spite of the fact, everyone wanted to use the toilet, because it was very beautiful.
Even though we were exhausted, we kept walking up to the lake. Di said that you would regret if you did not see the ”Swimming Pool”. At first, the track was very wet and muddy, then it was hard to climb .However, the scenery was attractive. The rocks and bushes were awesome and the lake was covered by fog and cloud. It was the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. I wish I could stay there forever.
Lake Peel and Peel Range
The second day, we made a plan to walk to Lake Peel and Peel Range. It was a beautiful Sunday. From Myttons Hut the track climbs up the side of the valley through a series of wide zig-zags. It was steep and had no trees except small bushes and grass. When we were walking, Di, who was our leader, took lots of photos from the back to record our effort. On our way to Peel Range, we saw Lake Peel, which was held by the cirque. Even though it was October, Peel Range was covered with snow. It looked so pretty, so we wanted to tramp the snow or touch it. But Di reminded us to keep away from the side of the Range, because we didn’t know if it was the earth or the snow. If it was just the snow and you would fall off into the valley.
On the way to Peel Range ,Di offer
We sat down to have lunch and enjoyed the awesome view and lovely sun, subsequently we left our bags and walked along Peel Range, which was very far away and gorgeous. It was absolutely freezing, despite the sun shining.
Sylvester Hut and Lake Sylvester
The third day trip was walking to Sylvester Hut and Lake Sylvester then return to the car park.
I was tired so that I couldn’t enjoy the beach forest, when we were walking, but most of our members still walked very fast. On the other hand, Mary was very slow. So I didn’t know what should I do? Should I kept up with the other members or wait for Mary? Finally I made decision I was going to keep up with the fast group. I encouraged myself to walking fast. Then when I passed Sylvester Hut I didn’t notice. Di called me, I didn’t hear. However, Di asked everyone keep walking to Lake Sylvester, then I heard she called my name. Lake Sylvester was pretty but we just took some photos then left.
Cobb Valley was a wonderful trip which included three kinds of tramping: long distance and flat、steep and gave us some challenge、easy but we need more patience.
