在頭份工業區,轉個彎進入巷子,竟然有個傳統紅磚三合院聚落群,這裡保留了將近50座的三合院,這裡是「蘆竹湳」。
蘆竹湳,「湳」為泥濘沼澤之意,早年這裡地勢低窪、四處蘆竹叢生,因而得名。300多年前先人開墾整理後,蘆竹湳成為以農作為生的閩南聚落。
然而在1960年,此處被劃入石化工業區,汙染問題造成農作物無法生長,環境問題,加上工業區所需的技能非務農居民所擅長,也造成了人口外移,現今這些老屋則因為限建及產權的問題,被保留下來,但也隨著歲月逐漸殘破凋零。
當地的長輩及受號召的年輕人,不捨舊時回憶沒落,興起老屋保存的行動,2007年成立「苗栗縣傳統聚落文化協會」,以期能將文化歷史傳承下去。漸漸地,蘆竹湳社區被打造成為一座「開放性的人文博物館」。
這裡的特色彩繪來自當地藝術家,替這傳統聚落更添「古早味」。遊客穿梭在巷弄中,隨處可見隱藏驚喜,值得花上3~4小時漫遊探險,飲食也不用擔心,這裡有蘆竹湳灶腳提供三合院裡的台式家常菜餚,還有1739陳年舊事食藝館老厝餐館裡的咖啡輕食,供大家享用休憩。
2014年,延續兒時熱鬧的元宵節慶感,規劃每年一度的蘆竹湳好采頭藝術祭,在地人回家團圓慶祝,也歡迎外地人一起共襄盛舉。明年蘆竹湳好采頭藝術祭日期為:2023/02/05(日),有興趣的人千萬別錯過喔!
【如何抵達:】
- 開車-Google 搜尋「蘆竹湳古厝」,後方有空曠免費停車場。
- 火車/公車 -搭乘火車至竹南火車站,於東站轉乘苗栗客運 5802/5803公車,至恆誼化工站下車,步行約7分鐘。
- YouBike - 於竹南火車站東站租借YouBike,騎至古厝約10分鐘(※蘆竹湳社區沒有YouBike停靠站,但騎腳踏車遊社區也蠻輕鬆愜意的)
In Toufen's petrochemical industrial park, just turn into an alley then you will discover a village in a time capsule. There are about 50 red bricks three-section compound traditional houses. This community is named "Lu Zhu Nan", which means "wetlands with reeds", was opened-up by ancestors 300 years ago and developed as a fertile farming village.
However, in 1960s, this area was included into petrochemical industrial park. Industrial pollution leaded to the damages to the agriculture plants and rural flight. These traditional houses are retained until nowadays due to the limitation to rebuild and complex property right issue, but these building were also decayed gradually year by year.
The elders and youths raised the action to protect those traditional houses and also to protect their childhood memories. They grouped up the Miaoli traditional village cultural Association and aims to inherit the culture to the future generation. Nowadays, Luzhunan community become a open cultural museum for people to experience the traditional life environment.
Another eyes-catching attraction here is the color painted on walls, buildings, windows and interesting decorations around. It deserves 3~4 hours for treasure hunt in the community, you will find out many surprises in all alleys. Don't need to worry about dinning issue as there are also restaurants providing traditional home meals or light food café. Having lunch in these ancient red-bricks houses are also a unique experience for tourists.
They hold art festival in Lantern festival every year since 2014. Local people will come home to celebrate, and they also welcome visitors to enjoy the party together.
5th of Feb in 2023 will be a whole day event to celebrate the lantern festival here, do not miss out if you are interested in it.

- By train/bus – Take the train to Zunan train station then transfer Miaoli Bus No#5802/5803 and take off at Heng-I company. The village is about 7 mins walking distance from the bus stop.
- Or you can rent a YouBike from Zunan train station, it takes about 10 mins riding to the village from the train station. ※There is NO YouBike Stops in this community yet, but it is nice to travel around the village by bike
