1-0. GENERAL Is Golf an easy game or a difficult game? It is both. It is many things to all participants. It is an easy game, in that no amount of ignorance about the technique can, alone, prevent players from completing the trip from Tee to Cup. If an urge to reduce this ignorance seizes one, this can be done in easy steps - over the centuries. Or at as fast a pace as the individuals can assimilate and apply massive doses of scientific explanations in their drive toward the "Ideal" in understanding the technique of Faultless Golf, or just something in-between these extremes. Are there any shortcuts?
Indeed, and typical of short-cuts, they can easily turn out to be the longest route. Chapter 12-0 has an example of a safe one. It is a difficult game in that total perfection is virtually unattainable because the Golf Stroke is fantastically complex demanding of mechanical precision -- whether consciously or subconsciously applied and ruthlessly deviates with every slightest stretching of tolerances during application.
1-A. LAW All the laws operating in the Golf Stroke -- Force and Motion, Geometry and Trigonometry, Materials and Structure etc., have been known since at least the days of Isaac Newton. No instructor or player put these laws into anything. Nor can they or anyone else be exempted from compliance with them. Laws are the Modus Operandi of their Principle and it is their unalterable Identity. Only clear Identities can produce precise applications.
1-B. SIMPLICITY Treating a complex subject or action as though it were simple, multiplies its complexity because of the difficulty in systematizing missing and unknown factors or elements. Demanding that golf instruction be kept simple does not make it simple only incomplete and ineffective. Unless this is recognized, golf remains a vague, frustrating, infuriating form of exertion. "Simplicity" buffs may find Chapter 5-0 or 12-5 sufficient.
