何謂寵辱若驚？
寵為上，辱為下，得之若驚，失之若驚，是謂寵辱若驚。
何謂貴大患若身？吾所以有大患者，為吾有身，及吾無身，吾有何患？故貴以身為天下，若可寄天下；愛以身為天下，若可托天下。
無論是受寵還是受辱，都可能讓內心感到不安。最大的不幸在於過分重視自己的生命。
聖人不積，既以為人，己愈有，既以與人，己愈多。天之道，利而不害；聖人之道，為而不爭。
聖人不擁有貪婪之心，而是努力關心他人，從而豐富自己。透過把最好的給予他人，他們變得更加富足。大自然的秩序是造福萬物而不傷害它們。聖人的指導原則是無論做什麼都不與他人競爭。
