- gossip 八卦。這個字很好懂，就，八卦。台語就是「講人ㄟ閒仔話，而且攏不好聽ㄟ卡有人想要聽」。

看到了嗎？英國人說這樣的八卦叫做unkind（用台語叫做「心肝不好」）翻成中文叫做「刻薄」。 - hear (sth) through/on the grapevine
劍橋英語字典這樣說：
to hear news from someone who heard the news from someone else
從傳聞中聽說，透過道聽途說獲悉，聽小道消息知道
片語中的 grapevine 意思是葡萄藤。從葡萄藤中穿梭能聽到什麼呢？
解釋裡面的 who heard the new from someone else 非常傳神。聽到的消息來自於不知道誰說的（someone else）。
