噢，船長！我的船長！我們險惡的旅程已完成，

船艦挺過所有危難，我們追求的已得勝，

港口在望，鐘聲在我耳旁，眾人皆振臂歡呼，

龍骨穩健，萬目追隨，舳艫果敢而嚴肅；

譯者按：

華特．惠特曼（Walt Whitman, 1819–1892），美國大詩人，生於紐約長島，十二歲入印刷廠擔任學徒，熱衷閱讀荷馬、《聖經》、但丁等古典文學。曾任教師，後創辦、主編報紙數種。1855年，詩集《草葉集》（Leaves of Grass）初版問世，獲愛默生（Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803–1882）、梭羅（Henry David Thoreau, 1817–1862）讚賞，卻飽受輿論批判。南北戰爭期間，惠特曼赴華盛頓特區擔任醫院志工，照護傷患，同時於內政部印地安事務局擔任職員，被發現是《草葉集》的作者後，竟遭免職，後轉往司法部任職。1868年，詩集在英國出版，聲譽鵲起，王爾德（Oscar Wilde, 1854–1900）渡海相訪。死後，瞻仰其遺容者逾千人。

本詩發表於1865年，林肯遇刺之後。共三節，每節八行，第一行及第二行、第三行及第四行、第六行及第八行押韻，格律和主題都比較傳統，是惠特曼生前唯一入選詩選的作品。本詩因1989年獲得英國影藝學院獎最佳影片、法國凱薩獎最佳外語片及奧斯卡獎最佳原著劇本的《春風化雨》（Dead Poets Society）而廣為人知。此外，據齊邦媛的回憶錄《巨流河》，美國總統羅斯福過世後，朱光潛在英詩課堂上朗誦的正是這首〈噢，船長！我的船長！〉。

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,

The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won,

The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,

While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;

But O heart! heart! heart!

O the bleeding drops of red,

Where on the deck my Captain lies,

Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;

Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,

For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,

For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;

Here Captain! dear father!

This arm beneath your head!

It is some dream that on the deck,

You've fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,

My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,

The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,

From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;

Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
