Tax news:Czech Republic Opens Its Labor Market to Taiwanese Citizens — No Work Permit Needed!
Starting March 1, 2025, Taiwanese nationals can work in the Czech Republic without needing a work permit or employment card — a big step forward for anyone thinking about expanding their career into Europe!
What's changed?
You no longer need to go through complicated work permit applications to get a job in Czechia. But don’t forget — you’ll still need to apply for a residence permit if you plan to stay long-term.The change is all about making things easier — less paperwork, smoother hiring process, and a friendlier job market for Taiwanese professionals and Czech employers alike.
LY Observation & Comments
This is a great opportunity, but before you book your flight, here are a few important things to keep in mind from a tax and financial planning angle:
- Watch out for double taxation
Just because you're working overseas doesn’t mean Taiwan forgets about you. Depending on your income and how long you stay abroad, you might still have Taiwan tax obligations — especially if you're considered a Taiwan tax resident. Be sure to check your tax residency status and explore ways to avoid double taxation.
- What about social security and pension?
Working in Czechia means paying into their social security system — which is separate from Taiwan’s. Since the two countries don’t have a social security agreement, your Czech contributions won’t count toward Taiwan’s pension system. That means your Taiwan pension record might pause, which could affect future retirement payouts. You might want to consider voluntary contributions to keep your Taiwan benefits on track.
