It is important for people to take risks, both in their professional lives and their personal lives. Do you think the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages?

2剑桥雅思17Test1写作Task2作文参考范文

In both professional and personal lives, there is significant value attached to making risky decisions. From my point of view, the benefits of taking risks outweigh its drawbacks as being adventurous is a necessary component of advancement and growth.
To begin with, running the risk is conducive to helping people advance their careers. It is understandable that there are many people who are inclined towards risk-avoidance and determine early on that they are satisfied with their job position, which may result in the possibility that they are unable to unleash their full potential. In contrast, those adventurous people are more likely to achieve great success in their professional lives. This is because making multiple attempts in different enterprises and switching between industries tend to increase the likelihood of finding a good match. In addition, as for personal lives, risk-taking enables people to gain insights that are not available to them on a daily basis, thus obtaining a strong sense of achievement.
It is undeniable that making a risky move comes with certain disadvantages. To be specific, switching jobs is likely to result in significant declines in income, which may exert heavy financial burdens on those ambitious individuals. Moreover, it might end up with psychological frustration as those who engage in risky behaviours may feel depressed and disappointed after encountering failure at the very beginning. However, these setbacks are supposed to be temporary and should not be regarded as major drawbacks throughout a person’s life as risk-taking is doomed to bring about significant long-term benefits. Furthermore, such concerns can be addressed by avoiding recklessness in making decisions, which could help lessen the negative effects of taking risks.
In conclusion, although taking risks may have disadvantages, these downsides can be mitigated so that they are greatly outweighed by the advantages that help people learn and grow.

Sample Answer:
In today's fast-paced and dynamic world, taking risks has become an essential part of our lives. Whether it is in our professional or personal lives, we are constantly faced with the need to make decisions that involve some degree of risk. While some people believe that taking risks is essential for personal and professional growth, others argue that the disadvantages of taking risks outweigh the advantages. In this essay, I will examine both perspectives and provide my opinion.
On the one hand, taking risks can lead to numerous benefits, especially in one's professional life. For instance, taking risks can help one to discover new opportunities, explore new areas of expertise, and develop new skills. When people take risks, they are more likely to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions to complex problems. In addition, taking risks can boost one's confidence and improve their decision-making skills, which are essential qualities in any profession.
On the other hand, taking risks can also have some disadvantages, especially if the risks are not calculated or managed properly. For example, taking risks in business can result in financial losses, damage to reputation, or even bankruptcy. Similarly, taking risks in personal life can lead to physical harm, emotional distress, or strained relationships. Furthermore, excessive risk-taking can lead to addiction or compulsive behavior, which can have negative consequences on one's mental health.
In conclusion, while taking risks can have both advantages and disadvantages, I believe that the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages. In today's rapidly changing world, it is essential for people to take calculated risks in order to succeed in their personal and professional lives. However, it is equally important to manage risks carefully and to take steps to minimize potential negative outcomes. Ultimately, taking risks is a vital part of personal and professional growth, and it is up to individuals to strike the right balance between risk and reward.

IELTS Cambridge 17 Essay: Map of an Industrial Area (Norbiton)

The maps illustrate an industrial area in Norbiton in the present day compared with plans for future development of the site.
The above maps detail Norbiton in the present day and plans for future development. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the town will become less industrial and more residential with the construction of facilities for housing, education, shopping, and medical care. This development will occur primarily to the west and north with only a small patch of farmland remaining undisturbed.
In the current town, there is a central roundabout surrounded by factories and a road running from west to east out of Norbiton. In the future, the roundabout will remain but the factories around it will become shops, new housing will line a northwestern road, and there will be a new hospital built to the southeast. The original road going to the east will also now have housing on either side along with a large playground to the north and a school at the easternmost border of the town.
