第五章
天地不仁，
Heaven Earth not kind,
以萬物為芻狗。
Treat all things as straw dogs.
聖人不仁，
Sage person not kind,
以百姓為芻狗。
Treat people as straw dogs.
天地之間其猶橐籥乎？
Heaven Earth in between it's like bellows no?
虛而不屈，
Empty but not exhaustible,
動而愈出，
Move and more out,
多言數窮，
Many talk much poor,
不如守中。
Not better guard middle.
英譯：

Nature is not benevolent,
It treats all things as common weeds.
The sage is also not benevolent,
He treats all people as common weeds.
How the universe is like the bellows!
While empty, it's inexhaustible!
When active, it's more productive.
No amount of words can describe it.
It's better to keep it within.
中譯：
大自然並不仁慈，
它視萬物為草芥。
聖人也不仁慈，
他視百姓為草芥。
宇宙多麼像風箱啊！
雖然它是空的，但它卻用之不竭！
活躍的時候，它效率更高。
再多的文字也無法描述它，
最好把它放在心中。
