前情提要：

自從 mp3 與串流平臺等的興起，當代音樂唱片市場面臨了斷崖式崩潰，其中除了盜版音源的問題，也包含現在不用買實體唱片依然可以聆聽音樂，所以唱片購買數量在本世紀初急劇下降（John Seabrook, 2017; RIAA, 2021）。

正文：

（在美國市場）專輯唱片發行第一週超過一百萬的銷量，離現在最近一次的紀錄是2017年 Taylor Swift 發行的專輯"reputation"，在這之後都沒有任何專輯的首週銷量超過百萬，直到今年 Taylor Swift 發行的專輯"Midnights"，發行三天（Oct. 21 to Oct. 23）的累積銷量已經超過120萬，其中有大約五十萬是來自於黑膠唱片的銷售（Billboard, 2022；Los Angeles Times, 2022）。

所以說這次的紀錄等於是在美國的唱片市場又一個時期分界點，此外，雖然目前大部分數據都是以美國本土的情形計算，但整體趨勢或許也能夠類比到華語的音樂唱片市場（或者更多地區的唱片市場）。

"According to initial reports to Luminate, the album has earned more than 1.2 million equivalent album units in the U.S. through its first three days of release (through Oct. 23)."

"Of that sum, traditional album sales comprise more than 955,000 across all available formats (multiple digital album download, CD, vinyl and cassette variants). Vinyl LP sales for the title is nearing 500,000."

"Further, Midnights breaks the modern-era record for single-week vinyl album sales in the U.S., with over 400,000 copies sold so far. That's the largest week for an album on vinyl since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991."

註三：這張專輯在串流音樂平臺的表現，也是打破許多紀錄，但因為我跟串流音樂平臺真的很陌生，為了避免講錯所以在這裡先略過（雖然我講唱片也很有可能出錯就是了）。另外，由串流播放數據轉換成專輯銷量的「灌水銷量」，是正式且被承認的計算方式，但我沒有很熟這部分的計算，所以討論時基本上不考慮「灌水銷量」。
