Jane comforted the boy, her voice soothing, while Duke sat quietly by his side, a gentle giant guarding the scared child.
With Duke leading the way, they walked the boy back to the main path, just as his frantic parents arrived, their relief palpable. They thanked Jane profusely, amazed at how the intimidating-looking dog had been their son's protector in those fearful moments.
