Elijah and the Fire from Heaven
Long ago, in the land of Israel, many people had forgotten the one true God. They followed a false god named Baal.
God sent His prophet Elijah to speak the truth. Elijah stood alone on Mount Carmel and called out, “Let’s have a test. You pray to Baal, and I will pray to the Lord. The God who answers with fire is the true God.”
The people gathered. Four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal built an altar with wood. All morning they shouted and danced. “Baal, send fire!”
But nothing happened.
At noon, Elijah said, “Shout louder! Maybe Baal is sleeping.”
Still, there was no fire.
Then Elijah built his altar with twelve stones. He dug a trench around it, placed wood and meat on top, and poured water over it—three times—until it soaked everything.
Elijah prayed, “O Lord, show them You are the true God.”
Suddenly, fire fell from the sky. It burned the meat, the wood, the stones, and even the water in the trench!
The people fell on their faces. “The Lord is God! The Lord is God!”
Elijah stood tall—not with an army, but with faith.
