1️⃣ To Parents

This story is a gentle retelling of the classic Aesop’s fable “The Dog and His Reflection”, designed to teach children about contentment, self-awareness, and the consequences of greed.

It includes visual imagery, emotional description, and encourages personal reflection using past tense narration and comparative adjectives.

The Dog and His Reflection – A Lesson by the River

One sunny afternoon, a stray dog named Milo found a juicy bone near the edge of the village.

He was thrilled. “This will last me all day!”

Holding it tightly in his mouth, Milo trotted toward the woods to enjoy his meal in peace.

As he crossed a wooden bridge over a quiet river, he paused and looked down.

In the water, he saw another dog—staring back at him, also holding a bone.

Milo’s eyes widened. “That bone looks bigger!”

Without thinking, he growled and barked. But as he opened his mouth, his own bone slipped out and fell—plop!—into the river.

Milo gasped. The "other dog" vanished. The water rippled.

He leaned closer and realized the truth.

“It was me,” he whispered. “I was chasing my own reflection.”

Now, there was no bone at all.

Milo sat beside the river. At first, he felt angry—then quiet.

Next time, he thought, I’ll be grateful for what I have.

He walked away—not with a bone, but with a lesson.
